Our Jouney

Clare and I decided to start this adventure after listening to a colleague say how close California was. The way it was described, it would take only a day to get there. With no Canadian visa for the next Ski season, we decided to make a journey out of it, a final farewell to Canada before heading home. We had the car, rickety and falling to pieces. We saved for 3 months, stashing money from paychecks and tips - and finally the day has arrived to depart. This blog will help track our progress as we make our way through BC, and down to California by way of Seattle and the Pacific Coast Highway.

Day 15

The travelodge included free breakfast, so we were up early again to make the most of it. The rain seemingly hadn't stopped all night, and didn't look like it would stop anytime soon. With Clare still not fully recovered, and the local papers full of pictures of flooded roads we decided to stay here another day. Sightseeing wasn't high on the priority list with the weather, and the internet here sucked - barely enough to post the blog, not enough to upload recent pictures. Clare was still pretty wiped out from the 24 hour bug, and the best thing for her was to sleep... Leaving me free to watch the rain and the TV, and read for a while. Considering how our days have been recently, it was good to completely switch off. Travelling isn't the most stressful thing in the world, especially round hot springs and wineries but it was still nice to do nothing for a day. The rain persisted all day, and needing some fresh air in the afternoon it was good to get out and do the washing. Finding a good/cheap laundry is an often forgotten part of travelling, but luckily the outhouse at the motel was reasonably priced.
By early evening, Clare had perked up. Her appetite had returned, and when she started singing and dancing around the room I knew her recovery was complete. Dinner was simple, we had a microwave in the room and I was able to get inventive with noodles and eggs.
With the limited internet connection, we were able to check out the weather further down the coast and it looked like it would be improving over the next few days. Tomorrow, we'll push on and we aim to be in California by tomorrow night, hopefully in a town called Eureka!
